Sailing from Ayamonte to Punta Umbria. Crazy canal in!

 So sailing from Ayamonte to Punta Umbria, this trip teach us a lesson. 

We start the trip planned to arrive a little bit before high tide. Because it is a river, and the currents can be strong, we wanted to enter on de end of high tide, when the current is almost stopped and the water is deeper. 

The problem with sailboats is that your speed is always depending on the weather conditions  and we learn that the tide on the sea and the tide on the river, they are not at the same time, anyways, we arrive there 2 hours before high tide.

The weather was ruff, we had a lot of wind, we wanted to enter the river to seek protection, but the water was very, very shallow. So we stop in front of the canal, thinking "what should we do??? Do we wait in this ruff weather or we risk to run a ground on the canal shallow waters?"...

Finally we decide, lets call the Marina there and ask about the canal, because the deepth was not clear on the maps, and a lot of the comments on the internet they weren't clear.

So we ask...

How deep is the canal?

We have 2 meters of draft and 12 meters boat, do you think is good to go?

And the guy from the Marina goes and say.

Look, I cannot guarantee but, we had have boats bigger that yours, and I know for a fact the last year, they did maintenance on the canal.

...uff... And now?

So we did a very deep breath, and we thought, lets go really slow and follow the canal, if we get stuck, we just have to wait for the tide.

So we start to go in, and we are following the canal on the chartplooter and following the red and green buoys on the water.

And suddenly, the chartplooter was saying one thing, but the buoys was saying a different thing... What do we follow? And the deepth sensor goes 1m under the keel to 0,1m... What do we do, what do we do?

Dam it, lets follow the buoys. We recover the deepth to 0,5m and we were able to pass the shallow waters 😮‍💨

After that, everything was perfect, we found our protection and a beautiful place a good anchorage, and we had everything we needed. Place to leave the dingy secured, supermarket and a nice small city to visit. The place have a nice natural views and is very calm, we decide to stay for a week, and a leave you the video of that.

Sailing from Culatra to Ayamonte. Of Portugal we go, and Spain were we go!

 Small trip to Ayamonte, but our first (of more to come) dangerous mistakes!

So we wanted to go and stop on the frontier between Portugal and Spain, we needed to buy a Spanish SIM card for de internet and we wanted to say hello to Soraia's mother that live in Ayamonte, and buy some stuff from the nautic store there.

The store name is Ayamar, have a many things and good prices.

And of course we wanted to start our food and drinks journey.

TAPAS AND CANÃS!!!

So, and this is important, let me explain for those who don't know what are tapas.

TAPAS are small dish's that cost around 3 or 3,5€ depending of the place, and they can be so many different things. Like small "tortilha" (eggs batatos and onion), "Croquetas" small fried pasta with meat, Small salades and more, much more.

And canã is beer, simple as that.

So we arrive at  Ayamonte and we anchor on the river, and that was our big mistake, let me explain why...

First we knew that bad weather was coming , but we also knew that will be more severe the next day, when we plan to be on the marina. 

And that was our first mistake, because bad weather before even worst weather, normally means that the weather will be already very bad and the forecast is not perfectlyyyy right. HAHAHA

So we anchor and we draft 90m, we didn't sleep nothing because of anchor alarm going off all night, and all the things that was going on. 

We didn't use a rope between the chain and the boat to realease tension.

Over all, was a mess 😮‍💨

The next day we went to the Marina, and a leave you with the video of that.

After that we meet with Soraia's mother and we go out to enjoy the city.

Sailing from Portimão to Culatra. First trip with no return!

First trip with no return. We are far from were its starts, far from the day we thought about "lets take boat lessons and learn how to sail, just for fun"  so now is the time, now, we are really doing it. Two years had pass since the first though, sometimes it look just as "an ideia" other times we were really focus on the project. But  time passed and step by step, we sold everything and the strings to land, confort and security start to be less and less. So, we are here, and despite of all the days we did sailing, this will be the first trip with no return. Our hearts were beating fast, not because is a difficult trip, but because the journey had started, and we set sail to culatra... 

So let me tell you a little bit about Culatra.

Culatra is a little fishing town sitting an a little island near Faro, South of Portugal.

It has a great and big anchorage area, a pontoon for the dingy, some restaurants/bars and a small market. Is peaceful and safe. 

First of all let me tell you about the sunsets and sunrises on this place, they are (see for yourself):

After all the efforts and "Ups and downs", we were there. At the time, in that present moment it felt like a bird getting out of the egg shell. A new and exiting world was present in front of us, we didn't know what the future would bring, we didn't know how big the challenge wold be,  but we knew that for the first time we were really alive. 

So the adventure started! Boat Repairs and Installations.

 After 10 months stop in Portimão marina, we are finally on the move 👏👏

But before I tell you guys all about the travel part, let me explain why we were stop on Portimão Marina.

So before buying the boat we did a survey on it.

 After that we got busy with the boat preparations and Repairs, Let me share that!

From small esthetic repairs: 

    

The white was coming out and I recreated the button.

Rebuilt all the teak repairing the isolation an give a total clean and teak oil

Repair the inside flor. Took the old varnish and apply a new better one.

-Net around the boat.

-Repaint anchor chain.

-Change the anchor to a Delta (one size bigger than our boat)

-Change the mattress to a spring good one.

-Change the taps to low consumption ones.

-Fix the old fridge and install a Freezer

 

-Install a washing machine.

-Change All the batteries and house batteries to lithium

-Install two new bifacial LG 900W solar panels 

and 10 months had passed. But we also meet a lot of friend in the marina and we had a good time there.

Açores um dos sitios mais bonitos em todo o mundo.

Açores para nós um dos sítios mais bonitos no mundo pela sua beleza natural.

Devido ao seu microclima temperado oceânico a natureza ganha uma força e beleza únicas, natureza é maior é mais colorida. Por mais fotos ou vídeos que vejas nunca vais conseguir sentir realmente a beleza do sítio

Quando chegas a um sítio destes sentes uma onda de beleza como se fosse uma olfada de ar que atravessa o teu corpo, é algo difícil de descrever temos que passar pela experiência.

Ia aconselhar quais os sítios a visitar e os restaurantes bons, mas na verdade, vou apenas falar da experiência em si e algumas dicas que podem vir a ser úteis. 

Primeiro | O tempo de visita:

É uma ideia errada pensar que podemos visitar as ilhas rápido ou que elas são pequenas. Há sítios tão bonitos que podias gastar dias só nesses sítios. 

Então o meu conselho seria, se fores uma semana tenta visitar no mínimo um sítio de manha e um a tarde, e se possível um a noite. 

Exemplo: Terra Nostra

1º-Ligas um ou dois dias antes a reservar o cozido feito nas furnas

2º-Vais a manhã toda visitar a lagoa e as furnas e depois almoças o cozido.

3º- A tarde visitas o Parque terra nostra, é grande e lindo e depois jantas qualquer coisa por ali.

4º-A noite vais ter uma experiencia incrível na poça da dona beija.

Uma semana uma ilha... Mínimo. É claro que se tiveres um fim de semana perlongado também é bom pois podes sempre voltar.

Segundo | o que levar na mochila:

Sair sempre com uma mochila e levar fato de banho / bikini e toalhas e um impermeável fino. (independentemente do estado do tempo), levar água, sandes e fruta, o bom é intervalar idas aos restaurantes e refeições tipo piquenique em sítios lindos.

Terceiro | Comidas e Dormidas:

há muitos restaurantes bons é perguntar, aconselho vivamente a comer o que é típico de cada ilha, pelo sabor e pela experiência. Dormidas nós alugámos Airbnb sempre que possível, a dormida deve ser económica pois nas ilhas vais querer estar sempre a passear e só vais precisar literalmente de um sítio para dormir.

Quarto | Aluguer de carro:

Não necessitas de alugar antes, quando chegares lá passa em todas as bancas e encontra o mais barato, qualquer carro é bom para alem de não ser possível, também não vais querer andar rápido.

Vila de Marvão

Vila de Marvão, na nossa opinião uma das vilas mais bonitas de Portugal.

 Por este motivo dedicamos-lhe um poste inteiramente ao Marvão, com um filme feito com todo o carinho.

Visitamos o Marvão em maio de 2020 e fomos recebidos por uma praga de bichinhos, preguntamos as pessoas do Marvão que nos indicaram que acontecia todos os anos por essa altura com a vinda do calor. Apesar dessa interessante manifestação da natureza o dia estava fantástico e proporcionou uma fantástica visita. Passeamos por esta vila linda por seus recantos e seus jardins, paramos num café (paragem obrigatória) O CASTELO - CAFÉ LOUNGE

Após isso subimos a torre mais alta do castelo para ver o por do sol. Simplesmente Maravilhoso.

No final do dia jantamos no restaurante Varanda do Alentejo onde comemos sopa de tomate alentejana feita de forma tradicional, e como refeição misto de carnes com migas de espargos e poré de batata doce. A comida estava excelente e a atendimento foi 5 estrelas.

Resumindo, uma vila mais que obrigatória de conhecer, deixo-vos com o filme para poderem sentir um bocadinho a sua beleza.

Como se tornar nómada?

Ola a todos, estamos de volta para vos dar mais noticias deste projeto, depois de muitas e muitas aventuras e peripécias estamos agora mais perto que nunca de transformar a nossa vida em uma vida nómada, não tem sido fácil e estamos agora a cumprir o nosso primeiros mês já como nómadas.

Sei que vos deixei com o Barco e com o projeto de Sail on Omega, projeto qual já não existe e foi cancelado por motivos de força maior

Olá a todos eu sou o Alfa um pastor alemão de 40kg, super meigo, pachorrento e brincalhão.... Tenho um coração de ouro, adoro brincar com outros cães e com humanos desde os mais bebes aos mais velhotes.

Eu sou a razão pela qual os meus donos venderam o barco, pois apesar de me comportar muito bem nele o barco começou a ficar pequeno de mais para mim :-( e eu tenho muita necessidade de andar muito todos os dias...

Mas não se preocupem que o barco acabou, mas o sonho não, o meu dono explica.

 

Como o já entenderam o barco foi vendido, mas o sonho de ser nómada não, e então surgiu a nossa autocaravana.

Entretanto colocou-se o Cov19 e fomos obrigados a fazer quarentena, mas isso por um lado foi bom.
